Right-wing groups supporting the government in Israel decided to “counter-demonstration” in response to the demonstrations that had been going on for weeks.
While the controversial judicial regulation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government in Israel led to a political crisis with mass protests and strikes across the country, there are calls for “counter demonstration” from supporters of the right-wing government.
While protests were held with the participation of thousands of Israelis against the judicial regulation led by the Netanyahu-led coalition government, which restricts the powers of the judiciary and envisages the power to have a say in judicial appointments, the extreme right-wing coalition supporters decided to take to the streets against the possibility of Netanyahu suspending the regulation. Pro-government supporters are expected to hold mass demonstrations for the first time at the same locations in West Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, simultaneously with opponents of the government.
Deputy Simcha Rothman, who is the chairman of the Constitution, Law and Justice Commission of the Israeli Assembly and is considered the architect of the controversial judicial regulation, called his right-wing supporters to the streets to support the government and prevent the judicial regulation from being stopped.
Rothman, Member of Parliament for the Religious Zionism Party, known for its extreme right-wing and racist policies, called on his supporters to gather in front of the Israeli Assembly in West Jerusalem, which is expected to be the scene of anti-government demonstrations today. Rothman, “They won’t be able to steal our elections!”, “The public wants a radical overhaul of the judicial system.”, “Go out and give the election back to the people.” used the phrases.
VIOLENCE CAN RISE
The far-right organization “La-Familia”, known for its violent acts, also organized a protest in the evening on Kaplan Street in the center of Tel Aviv, which has witnessed demonstrations against the judicial regulation for 13 weeks.
Anti-government groups, on the other hand, urged their supporters to stay away from areas where far-right groups are located, against possible incitement and acts of violence.
Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Gallant, who called for the suspension of judicial regulation, on Sunday evening, after which hundreds of thousands of Israelis took to the streets across the country. The call of Defense Minister Gallant was also supported by the Likud Party.
THE GOVERNMENT IS ON THE BEST OF DISCONTINUATION
Meanwhile, the far-right Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, allegedly stated that if the controversial judicial regulation is suspended, he will withdraw from the government but will continue to support the coalition in Parliament.
According to the news of the Israeli Public Broadcasting Organization (KAN), Ben-Gvir held a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the government’s decision that “it will suspend the judicial regulation that caused a social reaction”.
It was stated that Netanyahu conveyed his “decision to suspend controversial judicial regulation” to his coalition partners.
On the other hand, protests with the participation of thousands of people are expected in front of the Israeli Assembly in West Jerusalem against the controversial judicial regulation of the Netanyahu government.
