Minimum wages will be increased next month.
However, this is not the only change. The changes that will come into effect in the Netherlands as of July 1 are in our news.
As of July, minimum wages were increased by 3.13 percent compared to January. With this increase, some allowance amounts such as WAO, WW and ZW have also changed. However, the changes that will come into effect next month are not limited to this.

3.13 percent increase in the minimum wage
In January this year, the salary of full-time employees aged 21 and over was increased to 1,934.40 euros. In July, a 3.13% increase will be made and the gross salary will increase to 1,995 euros.
According to the new tariff, effective as of July 1, 2023, the salary of a person aged 21 and over and working 40 hours a week will be at least 11.51 euros per hour and at least 92.08 euros per day.

The daily wages of WAO/WIA, WW and ZW allowances will be adjusted according to the increase in the monthly gross minimum wage and will be increased by 3.13 percent. From 1 July 2023, the maximum daily wage will be 264.57 euros. You can find more information on this at Rijksoverheid/rekenregels.
Personnel in the AOW age group remaining sick
According to the current rule, the salary continues to be paid for 13 weeks according to the current rule when the staff who are in the AOW age group and still working are sick. However, a change has been made to this rule. From 1 July, these personnel will only be paid a salary for 6 weeks. In July 2023, the thirteen-week period will continue to apply for those who are in the period of illness.
Rental Reduction Act comes into effect
The Rent Reduction Law, which was approved by the Senate in February this year, comes into effect as of July. Approximately 600 thousand households will benefit from this law, which will be valid for tenants with a low income compared to their total household income in 2021 and whose rent is over 575 euros.
According to the law, the rents of households whose income is up to 120 percent of the minimum income will decrease to 575 euros as of July. According to a study, these households will reduce their rents by an average of 58 euros.
Changes in the collective bargaining agreement rules of temporary subcontracted workers
From 1 July 2023, changes will be made to the collective bargaining agreement rules for temporary agency workers (Uitzendkrachten).
According to this;
Temporary workers can no longer be forced to work outside the agreed working hours. If no fixed working hours have been agreed between the employer and the worker, these hours can be changed with the consent of the worker, according to the meeting to be held with the worker.
When subcontracted workers who have experience in their job apply for a new job, they cannot be employed at the lowest salary.
Contracted workers will be entitled to a transit payment (Transitievergoeding) after the contract is terminated. If this payment is not made, the worker will be able to demand this wage within one year. Previously, this period was 3 months. If the transition payment is not paid after one month, the employer will have to pay the determined amount with legal interest.
The duration of consecutive contracts with the subcontractor at the same workplace shall be at least 4 months.
With the decision of the Supreme Court, as of March 17, 2023, a contract worker whose temporary employment contract has an end date is entitled to paid leave until the contract expiration date when he falls ill. If an end date is not specified in the temporary employment contract, the temporary worker is entitled to paid leave for a maximum of 2 years from the time of his illness and until the moment of recovery.
From 1 July 2023, the temporary worker will be entitled to additional salary in case of incapacity for work and for the duration of the temporary employment contract. Accordingly, the amount to be paid to the person in case of disability;
• For the first 52 weeks of incapacity for work, 90 percent of the salary determined according to the time frame and at least the legal minimum wage applicable to the temporary worker.
• From the 53rd week to the 104th week, 80 percent of the salary determined according to the time frame will be paid.
Fee for plastic packaging
In the Netherlands, from 1 July, an additional charge will be applied to the plastic packaging of food and beverages. An additional fee will be paid for the glass of coffee purchased on highways, plastic cups and food packages given in takeaways, and the packaging of products such as pre-prepared sandwiches or salads sold in markets. Businesses will either have to use the cups or containers that customers bring with them or offer a ‘reusable’ alternative package option where they will receive a deposit. The business, which offers its customers an alternative packaging option that can be reused, will receive a deposit for this packaging.
How much the customer has to pay for the plastic material will be determined by the business.
Change in motor bike theory exam
From the beginning of July, there will be a change in the theory exam for motor bike (Moped) licenses. The results will be reported directly at the end of the exam, but it will not be stated which answers are wrong. Instead, in the result document sent by email to the person who took the driver’s license exam, it will be stated in which sections he got good and which bad results. In order to get a driver’s license, the test taker must answer 43 out of 50 questions correctly.
