The Commander of the US Pacific Fleet, Rear Admiral Jeff Jablon, stated that the US is facing “two nuclear peers it has never encountered before”, explaining that these are China and Russia.
Commander of the US Pacific Fleet, Rear Admiral Jeff Jablon, spoke about the developments in the Asia-Pacific.
Jeff Jablon said the United States is facing “two nuclear peers it has never faced before”.
According to CNN, Jablon said, “The Soviet Union was our mutual enemy in terms of nuclear capacity. Now we are faced with China, which is expanding and modernizing its nuclear capabilities.”
Referring to the USA’s National Security Strategy, Jablon said, “The National Security Strategy states that China is the most important threat to us and Russia is an acute threat to our country.”
“The majority of our submarine power is currently in the Pacific. At this point, about 60% of our operational submarines are in the Pacific due to these challenges,” Jablon said.
“WE WERE KNOWN AS ‘SILENT SERVICE’ IN THE COLD WAR”
Defending that U.S. submarine power “has become increasingly known to the public and enemies alike because it has a deterrent effect,” Jablon said, “During the Cold War we were known as silent service, we didn’t let anyone know where we were operating.”
“We operate extensively in today’s submarine forces, with other US services and with our allies. So the enemy knows we can operate in international waters anywhere in the world,” Jablon added.
Jablon stated that 25 of the 49 attack submarines in the US Pacific Fleet are stationed in the Pacific, but some of these submarines are not used for maintenance or other reasons.

After Macron’s visit to China and his statements, the US Pacific Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Jeff Jablon’s use of the term “enemy” for China drew attention in the international public.
