In the report, domestic violence cases in Germany, which were 139 thousand 833 in 2019 and 146 thousand 655 in 2020, were detected as 143 thousand 16 in 2021.
80.3 PERCENT ARE WOMEN
It was stated in the report that 143,604 people were subjected to violence in these cases and it was emphasized that 80.3 percent of the victims of domestic violence were women.
In the report, 70 percent of violence is perpetrated by current or ex-spouses, 59.6 percent of violent crimes are intentional injury, 24.2 percent are threats and harassment, 12.2 percent are severe injury, 2.3 percent are violent crimes. rape and 0.3 percent were murders.
In the report, it was stated that 127 people, 113 of whom were women, were killed by their spouses as a result of domestic violence in Germany in 2021.
13 WOMEN VIOLENCE EVERY HOUR
Family Minister Paus stated that domestic violence occurs in all segments of society and said, “In Germany, an average of 13 women per hour were victims of domestic violence in 2021.” said.
Pointing out that the cases of domestic violence are at a high level, Paus explained that the rate of victims of domestic violence decreased by 3 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year, but the number of victims increased by 3.4 percent in 2021 compared to 2017, rising from 139 thousand to 143 thousand. .
Emphasizing that the numbers announced in the report are the numbers reported to the relevant authorities and determined, Paus said that the number of violent incidents in the dark is much higher.
Noting that many victims do not tell what happened in the family and do not apply to the police, Paus noted that the Ministry of Family will conduct a research on domestic violence with the Ministry of Interior and BKA next year, with the aim of shedding light on domestic violence that remains in the dark.
Minister of Interior Faeser emphasized that violence against women can never be accepted and said, “We have to oppose this with determination.” said.
Faeser stated that men who use psychological and physical violence against women commit crimes and underlined that these incidents should be prosecuted.
CHILDREN ARE ALSO AFFECTED
Pointing out that not only spouses but also children are affected when domestic violence occurs, Faeser shared the information that the report to be announced for 2022 will include violence against both children and elderly people living in the family.
Faeser said that women who have been subjected to violence are not alone, and that there are many institutions and individuals that support and provide counseling services to women.
Minister Faeser called on women who were subjected to violence to go to the police and file a criminal complaint.
