Air travel has become more expensive as a result of higher fuel prices, according to travel organization TUI reports. It’s still an increase “to a limited extent”, according to a spokesperson.
“And the extent to which the price increases also varies by destination; Europe or a distant destination.”
Exact quantities cannot be mentioned because the price of a flight holiday depends on various factors such as supply and demand.
Transavia also states that it saw the effects of the war in Ukraine and did everything it could to make the trip as affordable as possible for the “ordinary Dutch”. Both TUI and Transavia do not exclude the possibility that people who have already booked will pay extra later. This is a fuel surcharge. But this is not the case at the moment, it is reported. “Some of the required fuel was purchased as a so-called hedge, but that doesn’t cover the full amount of fuel needed for next summer,” TUI says. Transavia: “It’s not the surcharge that we want, but there may be a consequence.”
Travel organizations Corendon and Sunweb have announced that they will not be arranging an additional tax base for people who have already made reservations. For Sunweb, prices will remain the same this year, regardless of whether you need to book or not, as “all deals with partners are already set.”

According to TUI, holiday demand has been high in recent months, but that growth is slowing slightly. “There may be various reasons for this; Due to the sharp increase in fuel prices, travel costs are slightly higher and there is uncertainty about the energy bill for the household and the situation in Ukraine.” According to the travel organization, it is too early to make concrete statements on this issue.
In a response, KLM said fuel prices are “very dynamic”, so airlines often take precautions against price fluctuations. However, sharply rising oil prices may cause a rise in ticket prices. However, according to KLM, it depends on the developments in the market. The airline also underlines that it is not possible to raise prices on all flights, given the competitive pressure.
