German Interior Ministry Spokesperson Maximilian Kall said that 80 tons of materials and equipment including tents, sleeping bags, blankets, camp beds, heaters and generators were allocated for those affected by the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes affecting 10 provinces in Kahramanmaraş.
German Interior Ministry Spokesperson Kall said at the press conference held in Berlin that they are in close contact with AFAD regarding aid to earthquake victims.
Drawing attention to Germany’s solidarity with Turkey after the earthquake, Kall stated that the Federal Technical Assistance Agency (THW) reached the region this morning with 50 personnel and 4 dogs, who specialized in earthquake disasters and conducted many operations, and that a team of 43 people from the ISAR aid organization went to the region with 7 dogs yesterday. .
Kall shared the information that 25 officers, including 3 doctors, 17 paramedics and 5 dog owners, are in Turkey with the dogs.
Stating that they will start sending aid materials such as tents, sleeping bags, blankets, camp beds, heaters and generators, Kall stated that these will be prepared by THW.
Kall noted that currently 82 tons of materials worth a total of approximately 1 million euros have been directly allocated, and these materials will be packaged and transported to the region by the German armed forces.
Spokesperson Kall stated that various aid organizations and fire brigades in the country stated that they would provide assistance, and that the support came from the provinces and individuals, and that these should reach Turkey and Syria in the best way.
According to the information received from the German Ministry of Defense, some of the 82 tons of material will be transferred to the earthquake zone from Wunstorf military airport by A 400M type aircraft in a short time.
GERMANY’S HELP WILL BE COORDINATED
In the statement made by the Federal Civil Protection and Disaster Relief Office (BBK) in Germany, it was pointed out that fast and effective aid was needed in terms of the extent of the destruction in the earthquake-hit areas and the fact that many people were affected by the freezing cold.
In the statement, it was stated that after the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, the Joint News and Situation Center (GMLZ) within the BBK will coordinate the assistance from Germany through the European Union (EU) Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) and NATO.
It was emphasized that specially trained search and rescue teams were sent to the earthquake area, and medical supplies, equipment and generators required for shelter were also requested from NATO and the EU and will be sent quickly to support local authorities in overcoming the crisis under the coordination of GMLZ.
50 Tents from Lower Saxony
On the other hand, the Ministry of the Interior of the State of Lower Saxony announced that Germany will contribute to the aid to earthquake victims.
In this context, it was stated that the province will provide 50 tents, 50 tent heaters, 15,000 portable beds, 5 thousand blankets and 5 thousand sets of clothing to earthquake victims.
