With only a few days left until 2023, all activities tracked on the internet throughout the year have been reported.
Accordingly, the internet outages that occurred throughout the year were concentrated in North America, Iran and Ukraine. One country stood out in bot account activity.
US-based IT services company Cloudflare has published a report listing the trends of internet users in 2022 according to data.
According to the news in Independent Turkish; The report also reveals how the activity of bot accounts has changed throughout the year and in which regions the internet blockades are most concentrated.
In the Top 10 list published by the company, which was founded in San Francisco in 2010, on the Cloudflare Radar site, countries were ranked in terms of bot traffic observed throughout the year.
Bot is a common term used in the IT world to mean “robot”. Robots, which can do many computer operations semi-automatically, are used in many areas of the internet.
‘BOT ACCOUNT’ FURRY
Bots used for indexing in services such as search engines can appear as bot accounts on social media. These can be used to inflate the likes of some posts or the follower count of some accounts.
For this reason, Cloudflare researchers state that they have identified and separately listed bots that serve the purpose of improving the internet. The published Top 10 list is based on data collected weekly throughout the year.
IRAN STARTED IN AUTUMN
Between January and February, the British Virgin Islands were at the top of the list. In the period from March to July, the largest boat traffic was observed in Turkmenistan.
While Virgin Islands took the first place in August and Seychelles in September, the biggest boat traffic was detected in Iran in October and November. It was also noteworthy that the boat activity coincided with the Mehsa Emini protests in Iran.
According to eyewitnesses, the protests that started after Emini was detained by the Moral Police on September 16, 2022, on the grounds that she “did not wear the headscarf appropriately” and she was violently killed, spread rapidly from Tehran to many cities including Sakkız, Senendec, Divandere, Bane and Bicar. .
THE BIGGEST INTERNET LOSSES
Cloudflare’s report also featured the largest internet outages detected for the year.
The report’s authors stated that “disruptions can be caused by events such as natural disasters, or they can occur when governments cut the connection deliberately.”
The first outages in January were seen in Kazakhstan, Yemen and Burkina Faso. In addition, cuts were observed in India in February, and in the USA, Ukraine, Japan and Iran in March, April and May.
Outages, which mainly affected the USA and Canada during the summer, intensified in both North America and Iran and Ukraine in the fall.
