Demanding class action status for anyone whose information may have been compromised, Gerber requested the court to retain third-party security auditors, in addition to unspecified monetary damages.
Gerber’s lawsuit alleges a “flaw” in Twitter’s application programming interface that allowed “cybercriminals to steal data from Twitter.”
The lawsuit states that “information seized” includes usernames, emails and phone numbers that could be used in phishing scams.
TWITTER CONFIRMED THE VIOLATION
Twitter admitted in August that nearly 5.4 million accounts were breached when a “bad actor” obtained personal information through an unspecified “security hole” in Twitter’s systems.
Twitter announced that “affected users” and authorities were “immediately notified” and that the “vulnerabilities” had been fixed.
Twitter said last week that it has “no evidence that data sold online was obtained by exploiting a vulnerability in Twitter’s systems.”
The company said the data is “a collection of publicly available data online, possibly through different sources.”
Gerber’s lawsuit claims that Twitter “buried its head in the sand about the enormity” of the hack.
Metals, minerals and rare earths discovered on the seabed in Norway
